Effective 4 July 2026 · witz is a birthday-gift experience operated by the Witbitz project.

witz lets you collect birthday messages from friends and family, then surprise someone on a short call where an AI host weaves those messages into a keepsake painting. The call itself runs on the Witbitz / Kibitz platform — see the Witbitz Privacy and Kibitz security for how rooms, peer-to-peer media, and end-to-end encryption work. No accounts

There is no sign-up. A gift is identified by a random room code; a private dashboard link (which holds a secret admin token) is what lets the creator manage it. Whoever holds a link holds that capability — treat the dashboard link like a password.

What we store

• The gift details you enter — the recipient's name, the occasion, and an optional one-line note — so the host can make the surprise personal.
• Contributors' messages — an optional name and the birthday message each person leaves. These are stored so they can become the host's brief for the call. The creator can remove any message.
• The keepsake — the painting made on the call is stored so it can be shared. It is published at a public link (witz.chat/k/<code>): anyone with that link can view the image, and it carries a small "made on witz.chat" mark. Only share it where you're comfortable it being seen.

The gift details and messages auto-expire (they are deleted automatically after a retention window, currently about 45 days). We do not sell your data and we do not use advertising trackers.

You can also delete a gift yourself at any time. From your private dashboard, "Delete this gift" permanently removes the public keepsake (all paintings and the video) and everything stored for that gift — the messages, the details, and the card — so the shared links stop working. This can't be undone. Routine automated backups age out on their normal schedule.

The call and AI processing

An AI host joins the call to run the surprise and paint the keepsake. To do that, the call's audio is processed by AI services (for example to understand speech, generate the host's voice, and create the image). The presence of the AI host is disclosed before anyone joins, and joining the call is your consent to it. The conversation between the people on the call is end-to-end encrypted between their browsers (that's Kibitz, peer-to-peer). Payment

Starting the call uses a license key handled by the platform. witz never sees your card details.

On your device

witz uses your browser's local storage to remember the gifts you've made on this device (so you can return to their dashboards) — kept in your browser, for your convenience, and removable from the page.

Children

witz is not directed to children and should not be used by anyone under the age required by their local law to consent to this kind of processing.
